Getting started
This short tutorial will walk you through the process of getting started with PhotoSort. You will learn how to scan folders of your choice and how to easily mark and handle duplicates.
Step 1: Choose folders that will be searched for images
First you need to tell PhotoSort in which folders it should look for pictures.
To add a folder click on the button with a plus sign. The button is located on the right side of the list.
After clicking it, a standard dialog for folder selection will open. Choose a folder with your pictures and click OK.
Repeat this to add all folders you want. PhotoSort is now ready to scan for duplicates!
Click Next that is located in the bottom right corner of the window and wait a few moments for the program to scan your folder(s).
The time it will take depends on the number of pictures.
Step 2: Select duplicates that you want to delete or move
After the search is done you will be presented with results.
They are sorted and grouped by similarity.
Click on a picture to see it and its duplicate in small preview windows on the right.
To mark a pictures for deletion simply click on the white circle that is in front of the picture name.
You can also mark the picture by clicking on its small preview.
On the screen shot above you can see how it looks like when a picture is clicked and when duplicates are marked for deletion.
The screen shot also demonstrates how PhotoSort finds duplicates even when the second picture is slightly different.
If there are no duplicates or the most similar pictures are too different to be considered similar the list will be empty.
In this case you should tell PhotoSort to be more tolerant to differences.
This is done by using the tolerance bar that can be seen on the right side of the list.
Just click anywhere above the current position and the tolerance level will change.
If you want, you can right click on any picture in the list and select one of many auto marking filters that will help you with the marking job or even do the entire job for you!
After you are done selecting pictures you do not need any more click Next that is located in the bottom right corner of the window.
Step 3: Choose what you want to do with selected images
Now it is up to you to decide what you want the program to do with selected pictures. You can either put them in the recycle bin, delete them completely from you computer or move them to another folder of your choice. After you are done here you will be returned to Step 2 so you can select some more pictures if you have not finished the first time. After you are done your folder(s) will be duplicate free and you can simply close the program.
